Who was Soreh Badshah?
Soreh Badshah, also known as Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi II, was a prominent Sindhi spiritual leader and freedom fighter who led the Hur Movement against British colonial rule in India during the early 20th century. Born in 1910, he became the sixth Pir Pagara, a title denoting the spiritual head of the Hur community, at the young age of 12.

Shaheed Soreh Badshah is a great example for the freedom lovers who chose gallows over compromise.Soreh Badshah died but did not retreat from the freedom movement.
Under his leadership, the Hur Movement intensified its resistance against British authorities. The movement’s slogan, “Watan ya Kafan, Azadi ya Mout” (Our land or a coffin, freedom or death), encapsulated their commitment to independence. In response, the British enacted the Hur Criminal Act in 1942, imposing martial law in regions where the Hurs were active. Soreh Badshah was eventually captured and executed by hanging on March 20, 1943, in the Central Jail of Hyderabad, Sindh. Notably, his burial site remains unknown, a fact that continues to resonate in Sindh’s collective memory.
